Possibly Unhinged Sommelier Pleads Guilty to Brazen (and Sockless) Picasso Theft
Mark Lugo , who we have been calling the "sockless art thief," riveted the art world this summer when he became the prime suspect in a brazen mid-day theft of a $275,000 Picasso drawing from San Francisco's Weinstein Gallery . On Thursday, the 30-year-old New Jersey sommelier plead guilty to one count of grand theft, and was sentenced to 16 months in state prison with credit for 256 days served, according to the San Francisco Chronicle . As part of the plea bargain, charges of burglary and excessive theft were dismissed.
Lugo has been held in a San Francisco jail since July 6, when he was arrested for the theft after security camera footage from a nearby bar caught him walking casually out of the gallery with a framed artwork under his arm and hailing a cab.
